The AP and Coaches Polls are expected to drop on Tuesday for Week 2, but don't let the voters fool you. They will try to convince fans that Ohio State and Penn State, both Big Ten powerhouses, deserve to sit at the very top.
These are the same polls that hyped up Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns as if they were destined to be the greatest team ever. Do not believe the hype. The real rankings don't truly begin until November—and even then, they will already be tainted by early-season poll mistakes.
The Reality Check
If we judge by on-field performance, elite recruiting, and key transfers from the portal, these are the programs that deserve respect right now:
